Noting down the pros and the cons |
I’m temporarily leaving school. I’ve realized certain facts affecting this decision. While trying to note down the factors, here’s what I came up, starting with the cons:
- I’ll miss the annual programming competitions. I’d love to be back in Cebu, especially SM and Starbucks.
- I won’t be able to initiate I-Like-My-Match booth for Intramural and I can no longer overseer those students who liked whom.
- I’ll miss the choir. Of course, I wouldn’t have to bother waiting for my phone to ring every first friday morning mass since the choir won’t be expecting the "always-late organist".
- Lastly, I’ll miss SAD (which turned out to be literally sad) and the members who are involved. I say they have to be on their own now. Anyway, they can’t proceed the 4th year without the necessary skills they have to acquire. If they made it this far, then it means they really must be "something". Also, like I mentioned in my previous entry, I would rather prefer innovation for my thesis.
The pros:
- I can start now with something I desire the most. Even if I have to finish the next two semesters, I’ll still end up with this something I want for my own. The only difference is that, there may be certain factors which would greatly affect this plan if I won’t have it as soon as possible.
- I’m 20 years old and I’m not getting any younger, so the earlier I’ll begin, the more I’ll gain. Plus, the society is quickly evolving, what seems to be the latest today would already be obsolete by the next day.
- I’ll be free from the virtual world, the harsh realization about the facts relating our current system of education. I’ll be learning how it is to live a real life.
- Most of all, I won’t be wasting my remaining funds spending it for nothing but a silly diploma dictating how society should work, blinding citizens with the social reality that every person on earth should be judged according to their individual achievements.

Once our startup hits the target net income we aim, you’ll be the first programmer we will hire.
That’s a bold decision… btw. I’m not sure if I do agree 100% but still…
Good luck..!

anyway, it doesn’t matter to me if i’ll have to spend a couple more of years before i’ll graduate.. what’s important now is the timely opportunity for me to grab.. like i also said, i’m running out of funds for me to send myself to school..

Are you sure about this? you’ll end up adding 2 more years because yours is the last batch with that curriculum. You might have been quite emotional on your decision (or so people might think, due to the outcome of your proposal defense). Just a reminder: “Mind over Matter”. You have laid only a few pros and cons. Might as well expand on them. Well anyway, Good Luck to you and to the one spending for your education

honestly, the outcome of the defense has nothing to do with my decision.. in the first place, i was already expecting that it’ll end up like that.. i’ve been thinking over this for months and not just overnight.. the biggest reason i have is, if i’ll force myself to continue, i’m afraid i won’t be able to catch up “financially”, ‘cause i’m the one paying for my own tuition fees, allowance, and etc.. therefore, definitely i’ll be piled up with debts (which of course i’m always preventing to happen.. btw, i still have to pay someone a few thousand cash)..
but if i’ll pause for a while, i thought it’d be a great time to spend it for some business (note that the incoming elections would be by 2010, and that’s one year from now).. the good thing about Information Technology is we can work freelance.. only those huge companies hire IT employees and require diplomas, but pay them less (especially in the first years)..
anyway, ’bout the curriculum.. it’s true that by the time i’ll resume school, it’ll be very hard for me to find subjects which would fit for my standing.. but it’s also a fact that there will always be a way, and one of my options is to have those subjects taken on other IT school/s..
but for sure, i will still graduate because i want to teach.. it’s college anyway.. manny pacquiao even became one of the most influential people in the world and he’s a multi-millionaire before he’s able to graduate college..

I’m glad you have some good views here. But I had a note on some of them.
@ silly diploma dictating how society should work
).
Don’t push to much mind set in our current society. It has been rotten since the days we are born. Let’s just continue to strive hard to lift this up (maybe in some way
@ more than education can offer me.
It’s totally true! But whatever place or school your going, self-learning will always be there.
@ Manny Pacquiao
It’s good to look at a person as an inspiration. It’s also like looking at Bill Gates. But still we can never be them and we can’t be like them because we all are different. We can only be who we are.
Enjoy the life of a Freelance as much as I do now. There’s always hundreds of opportunities lurking around. It’s up to us what to choose!
Wishing you all the best!
